the yankee paddler
Freshwater fishing in Connecticut, New York, and throughout New England.
welcome
The Yankee Paddler is a place for anglers of all experience levels and ages, focusing primarily on largemouth and smallmouth bass, but also on a wide variety of coldwater and warmwater species including trout, salmon, pike, musky, crappie, panfish and more.
From the rocky, crystal clear ponds to the sprawling lakes and rivers throughout the region, New England's freshwater fisheries are some of the most beautiful (and most under-appreciated) in the country.
In addition to highlighting the beauty and quality of New England freshwater fishing, this website offers resources, videos, maps, and other information to help anglers improve their skillset and maximize their time on the water.
Tight lines,
The Yankee Paddler
ABOUT me
Fishing was a hobby of mine growing up in South Dakota, but after leaving for college and then entering the workforce, it was nearly 20 years before I picked up another fishing pole and fell in love with fishing all over again as an adult.
Over the past few years I’ve had to re-learn everything I thought I knew about fishing, but it’s been an incredible experience and with every new trip on the water I’m learning more about what makes fishing so special.
My preferred style of fishing is based on “old school” finesse principles and minimal electronics. No forward facing sonar, no fish finders, just a trolling motor every now and then is about as “high tech” as I get.
I’m just a novice fisherman trying to improve my fundamentals in order to compete in larger, organized kayak fishing tournaments and thought it would be fun to document my journey and maybe help others along the way.
